The Female Characters

There are several major female characters in Beauty and the Beast.
From the beginning of the movie, the sequence in which the females make their debut is as follows:
Enchantress
Belle
Bimbettes
Mrs. Potts
Babette
Madame de la Grande Bouche (Wardrobe).

Each plays their own unique role and each is memorable in their own way.
There are many more females shown through out the village in which Belle lives, but within the Enchanted Castle the only females shown are Belle, Mrs. Potts, Babette, and Madame de la Grande Bouche (Wardrobe).

Enchantress

The Enchantress appears only at the beginning of the movie and is only shown through a series of stained glass windows during the Prologue. She comes to the Prince's castle as an old woman and knocks. She offers the Prince a single rose in exchange for shelter from the bitter cold, but he is repulsed by her appearance, not knowing that she is a beautiful enchantress in disguise. Seeing the selfishness and lack of love in his heart, she transforms him into a beast until he is able to love another and earn her love in return.

Belle

The beautiful heroine of the story, Belle is different from the other girls in the village. She lives with her father, Maurice, who is an inventor, and she loves to read. She has an admirer in Gaston, but unfortunately he does not understand her love of books, or many other things for that matter. She feels alone in the village, and is sad because there is no one she can really talk to. She will do anything for her father, including trading her freedom for his. Belle is a strong female who looks beyond appearances and falls in love with Beast.

Bimbettes

The Bimbettes are the three blonde triplets shown at the beginning of the movie, mainly during the "Belle" scene and the "Gaston Proposes To Belle" scene. They each have blonde hair with different hairstyles (although the styles alternate) and they each wear a different color dress. They are madly obsessed with Gaston and cannot understand why Belle does not pay any attention to him. They swoon at the sight of him, although he ignores them.

Mrs. Potts

Mrs. Potts lives in the castle and was transformed into a teapot when the Enchantress's spell took place upon the castle. She has a son named Chip who is a teacup (and it appears Chip has more brothers and sisters who are also teacups) and takes care of the castle along with the other enchanted objects. Mrs. Potts has a strong and wonderful motherly nature, and is the first to tell Belle everything will be allright. She understands that matters of the heart take time, and is very wise in her motherly age.

Babette

Babette is a maid in the castle and was transformed into a featherduster due to the spell of the Enchantress. She is the love of Lumiere, and they have a burning passion for one another. She and Lumiere flirt often and much in the movie, and it seems that the are madly in love. Babette is young and flirty, and a very has a very girly type of personality. She does not have as much interaction in the movie as the main enchanted objects, but is hopeful for the love of Belle and Beast.

Madame de la Grande Bouche (Wardrobe)

Madame de la Grande Bouche, or Wardrobe, is a wardrobe/armoire in Belle's room. Belle does not know at first that she is alive, and is surprised to find that she talks and moves. Wardrobe is a very funny character to me, especially in mannerisms and speech. When Belle remarks that it is impossible, wardrobe replies, "I know it is, but, here we are," and leans on the bed. It is one of my favorite scenes, and I know that Wardrobe is a very funny, kind, and wonderful female to be around. I only wish she were shown more often!
